"The internet with its unprecedented communicative potential offers a unique chance to make international legal scholarship more inclusive, participatory - and simply more international."

— Völkerrechtsblog Conference, “Opening Access, Closing the Knowledge Gap? International Legal Scholarship Going Online,” Max-Planck Institute (2022)

This resonates powerfully with SPIL Mumbai's vision: it underscores how digital initiatives like SPIL Blog can transcend traditional gatekeeping, foster inclusive global dialogue, and amplify diverse voices, particularly those of students and early-career scholars, within the international law community.

About SPIL Blog:

Started in 2024, the SPIL Blog is an initiative of Students for the Promotion of International Law (SPIL), Mumbai, established with the objective of fostering rigorous engagement with contemporary developments in international law and its intersection with allied disciplines. Conceived as an extension of SPIL's longstanding commitment to promoting scholarship in international law and international legal studies, the Blog seeks to create an inclusive platform that encourages criticial reflection, informed debate, and original analysis.

We invite submissions from students, academics, practitioners, and professionals across the globe, reflecting SPIL's ethos of collaborative learning and intellectual exchange. It serves as a space where diverse perspectives converge — ranging from in-depth doctrinal analysis and case commentaries, to policy discussions, treaty examinations, and reflections on broader issues of international relations, global governance, and comparative law. While maintaining a high standard of academic rigor, the Blog remains accessible to readers beyond the law, aiming to bridge the gap between specialised scholarship and informed public discourse.

As part of SPIL Mumbai's broader ecosystem of publications including the GLC-SPIL International Law Journal, Annual Souvenir, Snapshot, and the Archives, the Blog plays a complementary role by providing a dynamic and timely forum for addressing emerging issues that may not find immediate expression in traditional print formats. In this manner, the Blog not only extends SPIL's academic outreach but also reinforces its vision of advancing international legal awareness among students and professionals alike.

The SPIL Blog thus represents a conscious effort to situate international legal debates within both scholarly and practicial contexts, while upholding the values of originality, integrity, and inclusivity. We invite contributions from all those who share our belief that international law must remain a vibrant, evolving discipline, enriched by dialogue across jurisdictions, disciplines, and generations.

Symposiums:

In addition to individual contributions, the SPIL Blog also curates Symposiums on pressing issues in international law. These Symposiums bring together a diverse set of voices — emerging scholars, academics, and practitioners — around a central theme, fostering dialogue that is both interdisciplinary and cross-jurisdictional. As part of these symposiums, the Blog also features interviews with experts in the field, providing unique insights into contemporary debates, scholarly journeys, and professional experiences. In this way, the Blog not only facilitates scholarly discussion but also nurtures mentorship and intellectual exchange across generations of international lawyers.
