SPIL Events, Student Affairs
& Collaborations
SPIL, Mumbai has sought to encourage the interest in International Law, not only within Government Law College but on a far broader scale. SPIL wishes to accomplish this vision through its workshops, lecture series, debates, paper presentations, student competitions and various events.
SPIL recognizes the importance and the need to advance the studies of International Law, and for this purpose, it has joined hands with bodies that share the same objectives. It seeks to act as an interface for students to avail the benefits of other institutions, with similar visions. SPIL does this by organising various events and collaborating with several organisations, firms, academicians and luminaries.

For this purpose, it has sent a delegation of students to attend various seminars on International Law organized and conducts multiple events through sponsorships and collaborative efforts. It also takes pride in being a registered chapter of the prestigious International Law Students’ Association, which is renowned for its various activities such as the Jessup Moot Court Competition. SPIL also promotes other conferences, seminars and lectures that are organized by similar bodies.

We cater to the students’ keen interest on international law by identifying matters of global concern, into the subject, through interactions with experts, external Professors and sometimes even special lectures by Professors and the illustrious alumni of our college.
We have invited Professors from several foreign institutions to deliver discourses on certain subjects. The highlights of these lectures include the lectures by professors from Wayne State University Law School, Harvard Law School, University of Pennsylvania, Cardiff University and Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Singapore.
Workshops & Collaborations
We at SPIL recognize the importance and the need to advance the studies of International Law, and for this purpose, we have on many occassions joined hands with bodies, organisations and people that share the same objectives.

Interactive sessions and events conducted by us and are engaging while at the same time, didactic. Members of the legal fraternity have always shown a kind interest in addressing the students in areas of their legal expertise. Workshops have served as an enjoyable means of study, departing from the usual classroom technique. There have been several workshops that have dealt comprehensively with various aspects of International Law, ranging from lectures, colloquiums, discussions, to understanding and interpreting judgments and understanding the various concepts of International Law, this active effort has been possible with collaborations with dynamic bodies, people and our esteemed sponsors. We always look forward to dynamic institutions, organisations, firms, and people to reach out and work with us for such efforts.
Judgment Deliberation Competition
A novel competition, the JDC has been inspired by the procedures of various judicial bodies and tribunals that span the spectrum of international law. JDC brings a fresh approach to problem analysis and judgment making, requiring participants to, upon analysis of facts presented and arguments advanced, arrive at a unique judgment that is infallible in law, rational in thought, and innovative in its essence.
The competition Module comprises of a case file of a wide connotation, such that it will invite varied interpretations that not only attract established legal principles, but also encourage thought innovation that is based on legal analysis and rational thinking. The aforementioned Module for the competition, will consist of a comprehensive set of facts discovered by the judicial authority, tribunal or court, as the case may be, arguments presented by both parties, any further evidences, if any, lead by them and so forth.
The competition consists of two rounds: the first a Written Judgment Round, and the second, the Oral Rounds. Written Submissions must be submitted to the organizers within the declared deadlin.
Treaty Appreciation Competition
The Treaty Appreciation Competition is modeled on the procedures of various International bodies entrusted with the task of evaluating and appraising the legality, consistency and rationality of treaties, codifications and other legislative documents. The International body chosen for this edition of the Summit will be revealed on the date of the release of the Competition Module. The Competition Module would comprise of legislation, an amendment to legislation or a codification in keeping with the theme of the Summit.
Participants, representing various member states of the International body, are expected to launch an examination of the said Module, critique the propositions therein and recommend alterations, deletions or additions.

The Summit, aside from the Keynote Address, Panel Discussion and Call for Papers, comprises the Judgment Deliberation Competition which was conceived within the portals of our institution. Our past associations with premier institutions such as the International Law Student Association, Chicago and the Indian Society of International Law, New Delhi has only added to our credentials and has ensured interest and participation from reputed law schools across the world.
Legal Article Writing & Publications
SPIL encourages you to submit papers on an array of topics chosen from the vast, intriguing field of international law. SPIL presents various opportunities to enrich your understanding of international law through legal writing. The research that is put in, coupled with the presentation and expression of thoughts in writing allows one to grasp fundamental concepts in this field clearly. The students in this process attune their ability to coherently present their research and formulate an opinion in accordance with their own understanding in matters of International Law.

The SPIL International Law Journal and the National Legal Article Writing Competition which is held annualy is one such initiative carried out for encouraging students to discover the domain of international law and has grown tremendously within a short span & has seen a profound response over the years.
